Open Water Coaching CPD

The pilot Open Water Coaching CPD is now available to book. 

The course is delivered over 2 days and suitable for coaches who hold a Level 2 coaching swimming qulaification or equivalent. By the end of the CPD, coaches will have a clearer understanding of how to safely and confidently deliver open water coaching within their club programmes. 

Day 1 –  Introduction to Open Water Swimming Skills in a Pool Environment CPD

Classroom and pool session at NSA 

This session introduces the key skills required for racing in open water and explores the differences between pool swimming and outdoor swimming. The CPD will explore methods for integrating open water skill development into club sessions, including how to simulate outdoor conditions using a single lane or multiple lanes during pool sessions

Day 2 – Coaching in an Open Water Environment CPD

Classroom and OW session at Willowgate Activity Centre. 

This session focuses on the key safety considerations required to deliver open water coaching sessions effectively. The session outlines the differences between coaching in a pool and in open water, addressing both logistical and coaching challenges. It also provides guidance on how to introduce swimmers to open water, develop essential open water skills, and structure effective and progressive open water training sessions.
